1. Barr body
A condensed X chromosome found in the somatic cell s (all of the cell s of a multicellular organism which are not sex cells) of females, visible when the nucleus of the somatic cell is not dividing. None of its gene s are used, so it is inactive.

2. Barr body
Inactivated X-chromosome in mammalian females. Although inactivated, the Barr body is replicated prior to cell division and thus is passed on to all descendant cells of the embryonic cell that had one of its X-chromosomes inactivated.
