1. Epstein-Barr virus (mononucleosis)
A virus in the family Herpesviridae which infects humans. It causes infectious mononucleosis, which is characterized by debility, fever, sore throat, enlarged lymph nodes, and an increase in white blood cell count. This virus is transmitted mainly via saliva and is associated with carcinoma s of the nasal passages and throat and with Burkitt's lymphoma .
