The coinventor of Maxam-Gilbert sequencing , which is a lab technique used to find the sequence of nucleotide base s of a nucleic acid ( DNA or RNA ). He is also known for his research on the intron - exon gene structure of eukaryote s. In 1980, he shared the Nobel Prize in Chemistry with Paul Berg , a biochemist .
