1. Kawasaki's disease (mucocutaneous lymph node syndrome)
This disease occurs mainly in children, and is characterized by fever that lasts longer than 5 days and which is not responsive to antibiotic treatment, plus the following mucocutaneous manifestations: * conjunctivitis * mucous membrane changes: cracked lips, strawberry tongue * extremity changes: edema , desquamation of tips of the toes and fingers, erythema , rash * lymphadenopathy of the neck greater than 1.5 cm A major complication is arteritis and aneurysm formation of the coronary vessels, myocarditis , pericarditis and acute myocardial infarction .
