1. Lagoon
A shallow lake or pond, especially one connected with a larger body of water; an area of shallow salt water separated from the sea by sand dunes; the area of water surrounded by an atoll, or circular coral reef.

2. Lagoon
A small pond-like body of water connected to a larger body of water. A lagoon would be formed in a small stream during the summer when a sand bar closed off the mouth of the stream from the ocean.
