1. Opioids (opiates)
Opioids are a group of drug that have molecular structures close to those drugs derived from opium. As such they have many similar properties, e.g. they provide analgesia (pain relief) and cause respiratory depression as one of their side effects. Opioids include: morphine and codeine.
