1. Tardive dyskinesia
Tardive dyskinesia is the conditon characterized by persistent, repetitive, choreiform movements affecting the lower orofacial muscles. These movements are absent in sleep and worsened by anxiety. It is most commonly presented as side effects of drugs, especially the neuroleptics (phenothiazines and butyrophenones). Up to 20% of those aged 60 and older who take neuroleptics would experience this condition.
