Striated muscle tissue is a form of fibers that have repeating sarcomeres. More specifically, it can refer to:
- Cardiac muscle (cardiac refers to the heart).
- Skeletal muscle
- Branchiomeric muscles (embryologically different from skeletal muscle)
In practice, the term "striated muscle" is sometimes used to refer exclusively to skeletal muscle when distinguishing it from smooth muscle.1 However, different medical dictionaries report different usages of the terms. Cardiac muscle is a different type of muscle, but has almost the same structure as skeletal muscle.
